The main conference events will take place at Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark and The Market at Pepper Place, so grab your walking shoes — or a car — and see the town.

Dress the Part:
The IACP Conference calls for casual dress with comfortable shoes for plenty of walking. Octobers in Birmingham, Alabama, bring lovely weather. Temperatures range from lows in the upper 50s to highs in the mid-70s, so expect mild to warm days. Bring sunscreen and a hat in case the weather warms up and you find yourself at one of our al fresco venues in full sun. Expect cool evenings. This rangey weather before the Alabama winter begins can be unpredictable, so layers are a solid choice. Note: the Awards Party is outside and involves cobbled walkways, so avoid wearing super difficult shoes with your party attire!
Make Your Transportation Plan:
Birmingham’s public transit system is not as robust as in larger cities, as most locals travel by car. We will provide limited shuttle transportation to some field trips, workshops, and evening events. Uber is a good resource, but we suggest renting a car or using Uber if you really want full mobility and independence.
Make Your Covid Plan:
To ensure a safe IACP Conference experience, we have located nearly all of our conference events outside and in extremely large venues that allow for social distancing. In addition, we have proof-of-vaccination protocols to enter the conference OR a negative Covid-19 PCR or Rapid Antigen test to receive your event pass, and mask mandates in place at all our indoor venues. See our entire Covid Protocol Statement here.
